This Week

13–19 May 2026
A bit more of a grown-up mix this week — something sociable by the sea, something slower out on the Levels, and a few smaller things in between.

Beer & Cider by the Sea — Western Lawns
One of the bigger seafront events this month, with live music, food stalls and a huge range of beers and ciders across the weekend.

Worth knowing: it's ticketed, unlike most seafront events.

Fri 15–Sun 17 May

Waterlevels Walk — Pevensey Levels
A quieter, more unusual way to explore the Pevensey Levels — part guided walk, part conversation about the landscape itself.

Led by Charlotte Still and Clare Whistler from Watercycle, this 4.5-mile walk looks at the Levels' past, present and future, with stops along the way for stories about flooding, farming, archaeology, rewilding and life around the wetlands, alongside poetry written on the same route and plenty of local knowledge you don't often come across unless someone shares it with you.

Free, but organisers would like an idea of numbers. Expect boots, stiles and muddy patches.

Meet at The Mint House, Pevensey
Sat 16 May, 10am–1.30pm

Pop-up Spring Fair — Seven Sisters Visitor Centre
If you're already heading out towards Friston Forest or Seven Sisters, this could make a good stopping point.

A one-day spring fair inside the Pump Barn at Seven Sisters Visitor Centre, with local artists, makers and a few smaller stalls to browse before heading back out into the landscape.

Sun 17 May, from 10am
Free entry

Saturday Morning Music
The Under Ground Theatre has updated its Saturday Morning Music line-up for the next six weeks — a handy one to know about if you like low-key live music without the whole evening-out commitment.

Free, every Saturday morning, with folk, blues, acoustic and local performers rotating through.

10am (Doors open 9.30)

Amplified — Live Spoken Word Showcase
A chance to hear original stories, poetry, music and spoken word performances created by local young people aged 13–18.

Over the past few weeks, the performers have been developing their pieces through workshops, before bringing them live to the stage for the first time.

Expect a mix of personal stories, lyrics and performances — each performer taking the mic in their own way.

Hosted by poet and writer Roy McFarlane, with BSL interpretation throughout, plus step-free access and accessible facilities. Recommended for ages 11+ due to some of the themes covered.

Feels like the sort of event that'll have a bit of heart to it.

The Birley Centre, Eastbourne
Doors from 4.45pm, starts 5pm
Free to attend

Also on at The Grove Theatre
A one-night rehearsed reading of Blithe Spirit — the classic supernatural comedy where a séance goes slightly wrong and things unravel from there.

Rehearsed readings often catch you off guard — this one has a strong cast of professional stage and screen actors, with proceeds going to charity.

Fri 15 May, 7.30pm
£10 entry — in aid of Mind

Inside the Tiger Helix
Easy to walk past if you don't know it's on — but if you're heading to Towner Eastbourne this Sunday, worth knowing about.

Inside the Tiger Helix (Oblivion) is less "family drop-in activity" and more experimental live art/performance piece — involving movement, improvisation and audience participation.

Visitors can watch from the side, with the whole thing unfolding somewhere between installation and collective experiment. Definitely one for curious adults rather than children.

Sun 17 May, 2–4pm
Free to watch — participation booking currently full

That’s this week — a few things to have on your radar. Hopefully there’s something here to get you out and about between the showers.

Until next time,
