A few slightly different things this week — from a full-scale re-enactment just up the road to slower, quieter finds closer to home.
Battle of Lewes Revival Festival (Lewes)
Worth the short trip if you’ve never come across it.
Across the weekend, the Battle of Lewes plays out through the town itself, with re-enactors moving along the high street as different moments unfold. You’ll often just see a crowd forming, then realise something’s about to happen — and suddenly you’re in the middle of it.
There’s also a medieval encampment on Convent Field with living history, demonstrations and traders — easy to dip into between the bigger moments, with things like archery and weapon displays, plus food and drink.
It gets very busy, and because it’s spread through the streets rather than contained in one space, it can feel quite full-on — probably not one for younger children or anyone after something more relaxed.
Sat 9 & Sun 10 May, 10am
Free — just turn up.
If you’re leaning towards something quieter this weekend, these are worth a look...
Compton Croquet Club Open Day
Not something you stumble across every day.
A chance to try croquet on a proper lawn — whether you’ve never picked up a mallet or just fancy a relaxed afternoon outside. Equipment’s provided, with help on hand if you want a quick intro.
There’s also tea and cake, a small plant stall, and a raffle — more village green than formal club day.
Compton Place Road
Sat 9 May, 1–5pm
Free — just turn up
(Flat-soled shoes or trainers recommended)
Notable Graves (Ocklynge Cemetery)
One of the quieter places to wander — but with more to it than you might expect.
There’s a self-guided trail through some of the cemetery’s more notable graves, with stories that stretch well beyond Eastbourne. You’ll come across early local figures, lives shaped by war and loss, and more familiar names too — including Tommy Cooper.
Follow the guide if you want to, or just drift and see what you come across. Easy to dip into, or worth seeking out if you’re even slightly curious.
Also on — Spring Fair (Western Lawns)
You may have already spotted this one around town.
A mix of local groups, crafts, food and activities by the seafront — with an eco focus around water and the environment.
Sat 10 May, 10am–3pm

And, if you’re reading on the website, you might notice it feels a little different this week — part of a gradual update.
Until next time,
