The town’s started to feel a bit more like itself again this week — sunshine, people out, a bit of life back in it.
With that, a few things worth knowing about — including a final nudge for Springle in Hailsham this Saturday…

Hailsham lights up
Springle returns this weekend, with huge illuminated puppets, live music, and an evening procession through the high street.
Free, slightly magical — and easy to miss if it’s not on your radar.

A new monthly market in the town centre
An antiques and collectibles market launches in Victoria Place, making use of the town’s newly pedestrianised area.
Expect a curated mix of vintage finds, decorative pieces and one-off curiosities. Running on the third weekend of each month through to September — one to dip in and out of.

Pier to Pier Challenge
The Pier to Pier Challenge is back — a fundraising walk from Eastbourne to Hastings in support of unpaid carers. Choose from 3, 8.5 or 17 miles, all starting from the pier.
Entry is £10 (includes refreshments and a finisher’s medal), with a suggested £50 sponsorship — still doable if you’re feeling last-minute brave, or one to line the route for.

Sun 19 April, 8am

Old and foreign coins wanted
A poster in the Mind charity shop window caught my eye this week — they’re collecting new and old currency, the kind that tend to sit forgotten in drawers or jars. An easy one to pass on if you’re having a clear-out.

Something new on the roads
AI-powered traffic cameras are now being used across Sussex to spot mobile phone use and people not wearing seatbelts.
They’re mounted on vans and trailers, so locations can change — and images flagged by the system are then reviewed by humans before any action is taken.
Early trials picked up a high number of offences in just a few days — so they’re unlikely to be short of work.

More on how they’re being used →

A shift for summer
Eastbourne Pride 2026 is moving into the town centre — with a parade followed by a street party in Little Chelsea (Grove Road and South Street). Bringing it right into the middle of town — easier to get to, and likely a different feel this year.
